Within this Social Enterprise 101 workshop and networking event, participants will receive an overview of social enterprise as a potential alternative to traditional nonprofit fundraising strategies. Learn to identify and evaluate strengths through an organizational audit and how to translate these strengths into social enterprise opportunities. Participants will also engage in a process to evaluate the identified opportunities in an effort to determine which should be studied in more detail through a feasibility assessment. As a special feature, case studies will be highlighted from organizations that chose to pursue social enterprise and the enterprises they operate, including a 1-hour presentation by a panel of local social enterprise practitioners who will share experiences and insights. This Social Enterprise 101 workshop is offered in partnership with the Social Enterprise Network of the Triangle and the Duke Nonprofit Management Program.
This course is a prerequisite for Social Enterprise 201.
This course counts as a Special Topic course for the Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
