Course Description

How do animators, video game designers, and other graphic artists create compelling characters from a bundle of ideas? Do you have a cast of characters of your own that you write about or sketch? Take your character from idea to digital creation as you learn character design fundamentals! 

Receive hands-on support, step-by-step tutorials, and learn the elements and principles of art and design. Engage in visual problem-solving and conceptual thinking as you bring your original character to life! Imagine and explore your character’s backstory and personality through visual elements, including character briefing, color schemes, shape language, graphic translation and graphic interpretation. Move from rough sketch to digital character using Adobe Photoshop. Could you be the next Pixar animator or character designer helping to create a smash hit video game? Each session begins with an arrival day (outlined below), orientation and other activities. Classes begin on Day 2 of each session. Departure days will consist of class and presentation time, and flexibility in departure times will be allowed for travel as needed. Following registration, you will receive more specific information and next steps regarding your session and course.

Residential students arrive on Sunday and start classes on Monday. Students will then depart on Friday after 12 p.m.

One Week Cost (Session 2 and Session 4):

Please select the appropriate program option on checkout: Commuter or Residential. Payment of a $500 nonrefundable deposit will also reserve a seat in the course.

Note: An automatic 10% discount off the Total Program Cost applies for participants who have approved applications and who pay the full program cost by March 5, 2024.
