Course Description

Most have heard of sharks, but have you ever heard of their relatives: skates and rays? Did you know that sharks and stingrays are actually closely related? Dive into the study of the elasmobranchii family – sharks, skates, and rays. Learn about their relationships with each other as well as their morphology, habitats, behaviors, and threats to their existence as you become an elasmobranch expert at the Duke Marine Lab!

Through interactive approaches – such as tracking movements of a wild shark and dissections – you will get a chance to put your scientific knowledge to use! Discover the value that sharks and their often forgotten about relatives have for our ecosystems. Develop an appreciation for their ways of life and attract awareness for their conservation.
