How do Americans think about race and ethnicity and how does this impact issues such as voting? What are the historical underpinnings of race? Learn from policy experts from all over the nation as you investigate the complexities of race within the context of history, economics, and policy in the United States. Engage with readings, media, and reflective class activities as you delve into the complex history of race in the United States. Examine the lasting significance of slavery, the 13th Amendment, Civil Rights Movement, and immigration. Enhance your understanding of US history and develop a clearer view of longstanding historical issues.

This course is located on Duke University’s campus in Durham, NC. Participants should plan to arrive on day one, with courses beginning on day two. Both residential and commuter students are expected to attend orientation on day one, before courses begin.
