IN PERSON: Explore the creative process of designing, building, and decorating pottery by hand. In this course, participants learn techniques such as pinching, coiling, and slab building to create a variety of forms. We’ll add texture and decoration using many tools, including stamps designed and made in class. Students will work on several pieces over the duration of the course, allowing time for drying and kiln firing. Finished projects may include tiles, trivets, pinch pots, beads, pendants, small houses, or other three-dimensional forms. Projects use porcelain clay, valued for its smooth texture and beautiful fired surface. The materials fee covers all clay, color slips, oxide washes, shared tools, and bisque and cone 6 glaze firings. Each workshop begins with a brief discussion of participants’ experience, goals, and project ideas, so we can support one another’s learning. Guided projects introduce key clay techniques, while leaving room for individual creativity. | Active Skill Learning.
