A well-written short story may take an hour to read, but you can feel the same pleasure from its characters, plot, setting, dialogue, and imagery as you would from a longer novel.
Now in its 6th year, Short Story SIG members have engaged in lively and insightful discussions of over 100 short stories–contemporary stories and classics, American and international–from collections like “100 Years of the Best American Short Stories”, “One World: A Global Anthology of Short Stories “, “The O.Henry Prize Stories”, and from other sources.
Our fellow readers loved some stories; our readers disliked some stories. But we’ve listened to each other’s opinions and ideas with open-mindedness. Our SIG has become a safe place to connect and engage with other thoughtful people.
Here's what some members say:
“Discussing short stories with others feeds the intellect, the imagination, and the spirit!”
“Interactions in the group are invariably polite and friendly. It's fine to disagree, but our disagreements are always handled with humor and respect.”
“The benefits include continuous learning, challenging assumptions and biases, and the simple enjoyment of discussing stories.”
“I like the short story format. I learn from the fellow participants and discover new authors. The time commitment is very manageable.”
