IN PERSON: Over five weeks, create two handmade books from start to finish. Each class moves step by step from decorative papers and personalized book cloth to completed bindings. The finished books will measure 6 inches by 8 inches. Students will work with precut book board, bookbinding tools, and quality papers assembled into six signatures of blank pages. Through demonstrations and guided practice, students will build skills in both surface design and binding while expanding their knowledge of book arts. Techniques introduced in the first two classes include paste paper, simple printmaking methods, paper weaving, image transfer, and suminagashi marbling. Students will also learn Coptic binding and the chain loop stitch. All supplies are provided. The supply fee is $20 per student for expendable materials.
