ONLINE: The linkage of sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell into a group called "the five senses" has been attributed to Aristotle. He noted that it was through the five senses that humans and animals connected to the world around them . Mitch Freedman was born and raised in Philadelphia. He earned a BA from Haverford College in 1968; earned an MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972; and did his neurology training at Duke from 1973-78. He earned a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology 1978. As an Adjunct professor of Neurology at UNC-Chapel Hill, Mitch has taught medical students and physicians for over 40 years. His wife and he have two sons and three grandchildren.
