Course Description

IN PERSON: Explore the beauty and tradition of Chinese calligraphy and its close connection to brush painting. In this course, students will learn the fundamental brush strokes and basic characters commonly used in painting titles, poems, and inscriptions. They will also have the opportunity to learn and practice Chinese brush painting techniques, or they can focus solely on calligraphy if they prefer. No prior experience is needed — just a curiosity about these timeless art forms. | Active Skill Learning.

Required supplies/fee:

Students will purchase materials from the instructor and/or independently for a total estimated cost of $30. 

  • pad of newsprint or any paper
  • small bottle of black ink
  • small dish to hold the ink and a plastic container to hold water
  • medium sized brush

The instructor has good quality brushes and rice paper from China that the student may purchase, if desired. Refunds at the discretion of the instructor.
