IN PERSON: No prior knowledge of music or opera is needed for this engaging introduction to five beloved operas: "Carmen," "La Traviata," "The Marriage of Figaro," "Madama Butterfly," and "Così fan tutte" (with "Turandot" included if time allows). Taught by an instructor who has performed in each of these works, the course is designed to spark participants' curiosity and deepen their appreciation for the operatic experience. Through guided listening, videos, and discussion, participants will explore the stories, music, and characters that make these operas enduring favorites. The course will help prepare students to enjoy upcoming live productions of "Carmen" (October) and "Turandot" (February) in Raleigh, and "Così fan tutte" (October) in theaters. As the instructor will be rehearsing for "Carmen" and "Turandot" during the course, participants will also get behind the scenes insights into the rehearsal and production process. The small group format encourages conversation and active engagement. | Facilitated discussion.
