Course Description

IN PERSON: Chinese brush painting attempts to capture the essence or spirit of a subject. In this hands-on art course, students will learn how to paint landscapes, including mountains, rivers, trees and figures. These are popular brush painting subjects. Each person will complete a beautiful painting in one or two classes while practicing basic brush painting techniques. The instructor will provide a step-by-step demonstration of brush painting. Then students will practice painting with the instructor’s help. While practicing, students will learn how to use ink, how to control the brush and how to paint various brush strokes. Each student will complete a nice brush painting. This course is for both experienced and beginning students. | Active Skill Learning.

Required supplies/fee: Students will need to purchase materials independently and/or from the instructor for a total estimated cost of $45. Supply list and the price (only one time purchase that will last long time): a pad of newsprint ($5) and a roll of rice paper (you don’t need rice paper right away) A small bottle of liquid black ink for brush painting ($5-$18) a set of Chinese brush painting color or water color (you don’t need it right away) a plastic container to hold water and a small dish to hold ink medium sized and small sized Chinese brush painting brushes (a whole set of brushes for $35) The instructor has good quality brushes and rice paper from China that the student may purchase
