ONLINE: In this engaging six-week course, we will explore the works and legacies of charismatic classical music performers through anecdotes, stories, humor, and rich audiovisual examples. The focus will be on artists who redefined technical brilliance, tonal richness, and showmanship on the piano, violin, cello, or another instrument. We will compare performers who have achieved a compelling balance of intensity, passion, and bold elegance — musicians whose distinctive sounds have captivated audiences over the past 150 years. From legendary figures such as Arthur Rubinstein, Jascha Heifetz, Vladimir Horowitz, Itzhak Perlman, and Anne-Sophie Mutter to boundary-breaking contemporary stars like Lang Lang, Ara Malikian, Alma Deutscher, and Yuja Wang, the artists we will discuss represent virtuosity in all its expressive forms. | Lecture + Q&A.
