IN PERSON: What exactly were the teachings of the earliest Christian church? Why was it considered so radical? And why are ministers, seminaries, and some schools still reluctant to discuss this today? Recent religious studies scholarship has unearthed a radical view of the birth and formation of the Christian church. It is now clear that what has been consistently taught in every church around the globe for the last 1,700 years is drastically different from the teachings of the earliest church during the first 300 years of Christianity. Classes will be interactive based on the presentation material. Upon completion of this course, students will understand the diverse sects of Christianity that were the earliest and most popular forms of the religion: what they taught and how that differs from later views of Christian history and theology; who had a major influence on Christianity and was responsible for the creation of the first Bible; and what happened that wrote him out of history. | Lecture + Q&A, Facilitated discussion.
