IN PERSON: This course approaches photography through the lens of art appreciation, exploring how photographers think about their work and what inspires them. Class sessions will center on conversations with guest photographers and collectors, who will share their work, discuss the artists who shaped their vision, and describe their creative process. The instructor will also introduce some of her recent and favorite photographic discoveries. We’ll talk about the elements that make images compelling: composition, framing, focus, context, and the artist’s intent. For those who are interested, there will be completely optional photo assignments that offer participants a chance to explore the ideas introduced in class. The course is open to everyone, whether you want to be a better photographer or you want to sharpen your eye for looking at photographs. If schedules permit, guest photographers may also offer informal demonstrations in the classroom of how they approach making an image. | Lecture + Q&A, Facilitated discussion.
