IN PERSON: In this engaging and supportive six-part workshop, we will explore the art and craft of writing long sentences that move and surprise. Through brief lectures, guided in-class writing exercises, and thoughtful peer workshops, participants will discover how length can create rhythm, tension, humor, and insight. Each session features a reading of a classic long sentence by a celebrated author — James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Marcel Proust, William Faulkner, Victor Hugo, Vladimir Nabokov, Margaret Atwood, Gabriel García Márquez, or Leo Tolstoy — to inspire our own writing and deepen our understanding of sentence architecture. Participants will produce original work each week, sharing their writing in a collaborative and encouraging environment. The instructor will offer detailed individual feedback throughout. By the end of the series, writers will have developed their own extended sentences that reflect clarity, curiosity, and craft. | Lecture + Q&A, Facilitated discussion.
