IN PERSON: As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary, this course revisits the pivotal decade that shaped the nation’s system of government. Following the signing of the Declaration of Independence, American leaders faced the challenge of creating a workable political framework for a new country. We will examine the formation of the government under the Articles of Confederation, considering both their achievements and their limitations. We will then explore how those limitations led to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, where delegates debated competing visions and forged the compromises that produced the U.S. Constitution.
