Course Description

ONLINE: Every day we decide what to believe, whom to trust, and how much weight to give data, experts, headlines, online reviews, artificial intelligence answers, health claims, and personal experiences. This online course offers students practical tools for making better decisions in a noisy information environment. Through short lectures, live examples, simple decision exercises, and discussions, students will learn how to spot weak evidence, recognize bias and persuasion, ask better questions, compare options, and know when human judgment matters most. Examples will come from daily life, the news, health information, consumer choices, family decisions, technology, organizations, and civic life. No prior coursework, technical background, statistics training, or AI experience is required. Students will leave with a plain-language tool kit to use to evaluate information and make more thoughtful choices. Bring your curiosity and willingness to discuss the examples. | Lecture + Q&A, Facilitated discussion.
