Course Description

ONLINE: This lecture-based course connects the visual richness of art history with the flavors of the culinary world. Moving chronologically from the Renaissance through the Dutch golden age, the belle epoque, and impressionism and surrealism, we’ll explore what some of history’s greatest artists ate, and how food shaped their lives and work. Participants will spend a “day in the life” of artists such as Michelangelo, Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, and Dalí, discovering how their diets, dining habits, and social gatherings influenced their creativity and artistic output. Optional readings listed here are available for those who wish to deepen their experience, but they are not required. | Lecture + Q&A.
