ONLINE: Pádraig Ó Tuama is a poet, theologian, and conflict resolution facilitator. His book "Poetry Unbound: 50 Poems to Open Your World" contains a brilliant array of poems by international poets, whose diverse life experiences, styles, and scope may inspire and inform students' work. Each week, the class will study one poem and read Ó Tuama's commentary, which may provide fresh ideas for the poem students will write that week. Students are invited to submit that poem by emailing it to the instructor, who will forward the collected poems to class members the day before class. It is important for students to read each poem a few times, noticing what the poem says and how craft works with attention to appearance on the page, music, the poetic line, repetitions, imagery, and more. Ideas will be exchanged in a place where focused, thoughtful discussion may assist students in honing their poems.
