IN PERSON: Space is often associated with astronauts, rockets, and distant planets, but it also plays a critical role in our everyday lives. In this course, we will explore how humanity became a spacefaring species and how our growing access to space affects daily life on Earth. Many technologies we rely on—for satellite navigation, telecommunications, weather forecasting, Earth imaging, agricultural monitoring, and even aspects of the internet and solar power—depend on systems operating in space. We will examine how these capabilities developed and how space-based technologies support modern societies around the world. The course will also look ahead to the future of space activity and how expanding access to space may further transform life on Earth. Participants will gain a broad understanding of the history, current uses, and future possibilities of space technology and the many practical benefits it provides.
